Audience Feedback

The Next Step?

I now intend to get some audience feedback from my target audience. I will be doing this by sending the link of my post on my blog. This will allow them to see the digital and coloured version which will be better than a black and white handout. I will try to record my findings through verious medias such as audio, video and online.
I also try to get feedback from older and younger readers this means I will be able to see the high and low points of my K-pop music magazine from a wider variety of age. By doing this, I wil be able to add the important information to my evaluation.

Double Page Spread

This is my final product. I am very happy with my outcome even though I have come across many difficulties such as deciding whether to change my front cover at the very last minute, however I am pleased that I took the risk as it now looks better. Looking at other K-pop magazines I feel that my music magazine gives the same feel and content. I have tried to make my front cover noticeable and professional at the same time and in my opinion I have achieved that. I like my double page spread the most due to the layout I have followed as well as the images I have used which really shows off my cover stars personality.

Change of mind

I have chosen to change the front cover by taking off the three bars which used to be located on the very left hand side of the page. Instead I have just left it blank which made it look more professional. I have also re-edited the main image as the colour was too vibrant and it was pixelated.

Changes made on the DPS and contents page

Due to the comment I received, I needed to take advantage of the space within the Double Page Spread. So I have chosen to delete the previous photo and input these 2 other ones. On the other hand I had to delete the main image on my contents page as it's the same one. I am now choosing a different image to put on the contents page.

Here you can see that I have changed the image on my contents page. I chose this image as I thought that it shows Miss A's talent.

After a few hours of looking at it and not being satisfied, I felt that the use of a bright yellow for the editors notes and the subscription box was unattractive. This is where I then decided to use a red box instead which I felt better about it. By doing so, I had to change the text colour from black to white which was very refreshing to the eyes. This means that my readers will be able to read this with no trouble which I hope they will appreciate.

Double page spread

Here you can see I haven't fully finished my DPS because I haven't added the page number, strap-line and photography credit.

Understanding more about being a Kpop Star

1. Look out for videos and reports from music companies scouting new trainees such as this:

2.  Audition by sending a video or going to the scouting centres (Dancing, singing or specializing in an instrument)

Here are some auditions of KPop stars:
Taemin from SHINee (SM Entertainment)
Park Bom from 2NE1 (YG Entertainment)
Min - an new trainee (JYP)

3.  If you get picked, you go through further processes and become what they call a ‘trainee’ this means you move to Korea and go to college there. The recording companies such as YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment or JYP pay for all your needs like food, housing (dorms) and extra classes such as acrobatics.

4.  It takes a few years of training before you debut if you do not debut you pay the company back everything they spent on you.
Here is a video about life being a JYP trainee:

K-Pop Hits America

Here is a video about K-pop dominating the music industry in America. This shows how K-pop is starting to become more popular overseas. It wouldn't be surprised that by late 2013 we start to hear some K-pop songs on our local radio.

Process of my Contents and Adverts Page

Here I added my Single on the left hand side of the magazine page following my Flat Plan. I added the image in the middle of the page so it will be first thing my readers will see. They will also get attracted to the bright yellow box at the bottom which contrast against the white text. I haven't finished the sales banner yet which is why I have left a large gap at the top of the yellow box.
I have also added the three main colors of the magazine on the top left corner to make my page uniformed to the color scheme following from the front page.

Here in this print screen you can see the build up of my contents page and some additional to the adverts page. I put a "Out now" text against a red triangle as red is an instructing color which will automatically make the readers want to buy the single. On the right side of the contents page I have followed my plans of the contents page. each page number goes by most of the pages in the flat plan to show that I have followed the plan. I have broken down the categorize into 3 sections; Features where the main articles are, Contests - contests or chances to win things and Extras where I have planned to put the other contents of the magazine relating to Kpop.

Here you can clearly see the progress I have made, I  have added another picture (Mix) which is of the contest winner. This will show a variety of images which will show that this magazine doesn't just focus on the cover star. I have also added the rest of article page numbers and titles underneath the Extras category.

This is the latest edit I have made on my contents page. I have added the page numbers of the articles next to the two photos which I thought might help the readers. I have also moved the title banner higher to make room for the editors note as well as the subscription. In addition I have added one of the contest from the Front cover to the contents page which works well as it will entice the readers. I have placed the text of this behind a pink circle with a drop shadow to make it look three dimension this will make it look like its jumping out from the page.

Front page trial and error

This is the first trail of my cover magazine. This looks great as her facial expression is very unique. But her left hand doesn't look in position. It's out of place which ruins her pose. With the use of the varsity jacket the texts on the left side of the magazine is hard to be seen. I have added a white text outline so that the text can be seen even though there's a white background. The 'Miss A' is standing out due to the dark background. The text and colours works perfectly.
This front cover is very appealing for my target audience this is because of her pose and attitude in the image. However the 'Exlusive interview about her:' is lost due to her trousers. The colours used clash and it's hard for the readers to see. the image is also very small for the page but this can easily be edited. Her clothing style is giving the magazine an 'edgy' and 'bold' feeling which is suitable for the genre and audience.
This is the third cover front, I have placed her on the right side so her outfit is clearly shown but it doesn't look very nice which is why I don't think I'll be using this image. In addition I took this image from above her making her look smaller. This isn't the message I'm trying to put across as it looks as if people are looking down at her. Furthermore, where I have cropped the background, I have left mark on the image which doesn't blend in with the backgroud. However this can be photoshopped.
This is the last trial I have chosen which is a very cheerful photo with a hint of edge due to her outfit. This will appeal more to the older audience (20+) my readers will find this outfit appealing and will want to buy similar clothes. The spread of of the image is also a perfect size for the front cover as she takes up most of the space. I personally feel that I will use this image for my final cover as I like her facial expression because she looks calm and that she's enjoying herself.

Photo Selection

This image is a full body shot. Her outfit is clearly shown which is good but her body language is too slouched and her face expression looks too serious which won't appeal to the target audience.
I like this picture as it shows her passion, singing. This is a great photo to use for my front cover or double page spread as it clearly shows that she's having fun.
This photo is very serious and her body language is too stiff. It doesn't look like she's having fun. She looks unconfortable and her facial expression isn't pleasant to look at. This won't sell or attract readers.
Here she looks more serious and edgy which is good as that's what I'm trying to portray her to be. This will get the message across to the fans that she's  serious about her music.
This is another great photo which again portrays her fun, edgy and fierce side. However the flash was too strong which resulted to washing out her color. I will try and edit this photo better.
Here is the second outfit where she looked too young and that's the reason why I added a varsity jacket. This pose is very playful and fun-loving. On the contrary this isn't the sign I want to send out to my audience.

This is the next outit where I have added a gray and black varsity jacket which adds a more grown-up feel to the image. Her pose is very unique and will go very well with the main cover line on the front cover.

Here I added 'Love' to her hand this is because the DPS will include sections of her love life. This is a good photo to sign-post this as the readers will get curious and want to go straight to the DPS.

Here I made her wear very sophisticated dress but made her wear a leather jacket to tone it down. Her facial expression is very relaxed and her smile is very simple yet effective.

Double Page Spread Plans

This first plan is very neat and clean looking which the readers will appreciate as they will find it very easy to read. I especially this as the main image is in the centre of the page which hardly ever happens on DPS. This means my double page spread will look unique. In addition, this plan looks very organized which will make my magazine look that  it’s been well planned out and structured.

This second double page spread is more like the normal and usual DPS’s you see on any magazines. It’s very common and boring but it is very easy to read and my audience will not get lost while reading the articles due to the columns. The main image will also be aligned with the columns which will make the page look really tidy. The fonts that will be used for this DPS is also the same as the front page which will show continuation throughout the magazine.

My last double page spread plan is very attractive and interesting.  This DPS will allow more space for the main article. The reader will be able to read more contents. It’s also very different from any other magazine double page spread. I like the use of colours as it brings out the font and colour used in the headline. The format of the upper section of the magazine is also very attractive and eye catching which will hopefully lure readers in.

Advert - New single

Trial and Error

This is the first edit I created on Picmonkey. I felt that it gave the picture a ‘Cold’ look which I didn’t really like as it didn’t look very appealing to the audience and it also doesn’t have any relation to my chosen genre.

This second edit was a lot closer to my chosen genre than the first edit. This edit shows more of a ‘Hip-Hop’ or ‘Gangster’ look to it which is very different to what I was going for. The texture of this edit also makes the image very worn out giving it an old look.

In this edit I played around with the geometric shapes and chose the triangle as it’s a very sharp shape which may connote confidence and will give it an edgy feel. Then for the individual shapes I placed them in a very unique way giving each shape a different color which gives a fun and loving feel to the image too.

Developing the main

I was inspired from the music video from 2NE1’s music video ‘Clap Your Hands.’ At one point in their video they wore very sharp shaped clothes where they had suites on in red and white. But I added the colours because I felt that if I stuck with red and white I’d be too boring and the red will be too over whelming for the readers because the main colour pallet already has the colour red.

Here you can see I've added the title of the New Single. It's  titled 'Beautiful Hangover.' Whilst creating and editing this I was listening to Big Bang who've inspired me for the title of this new single. At first I placed the title at the bottom of the album in black but that was hard to see against the image.

Here is the improved section of the one above. I turned the writing white which shows more clearly against the image. I've also added a 'Handwritting' look alike of the artists name. By doing this it looks like her handwriting or signature which will be effective for this Single.  I have placed her name at the bottom right as I've built up an image of her being well known and she's already well known which means her name doesn't have to be plastered all over the place.

Finished Product

Here is the final product. I am very pleased with the outcome. I feel that it looks very realistic and it portrays well for my chosen ganre.

Flat Plan

The Flat-Plans are highly important for editors and advertisers because it will show them the contents of the magazine. Flat-plans are used for publications for magazine it contains brief description for each page. The flat-plan allows you to see the entire magazine and move pages around until the editors are happy with it.

The flat-plan has helped me to plan out the magazine contents and it will help me layout the page. I will be able to plan out the articles and adverts on the pages carefully by using the flat-plan.  Furthermore this will be effective in drawing I my target audience.

Contents Page Plan

These are my contents page plans, I have followed some layouts from existing Kpop magazines.

This first layout plan looks good as its uniform with the front page. The blue outline on the 'Contents' makes it look every electrifying which links into my genre. I like the contents layout as it looks very organized. It's very clear where each feature is. The editors notes is also clearly noticeable.
The main image will be on the left which will be a full body shot showing of my models clothes. This will also confidence in my model.

This is the second plan. I have changed the layout and the outline color of the 'Contents' text to red. This still evoke a retro and electrifying feeling to the magazine. The mix images has been placed at the bottom middle-right so it doesn't interfere with the main contents image. This will give more attention to the main cover star. The magazine contents has been placed at the right top corner to instruct the readers to go to the page they desire.

This last plan is quite different due to the different layout. This plan is more packed. But the editors block has been removed to make space for the 'Top 10 Kpop Songs.' I feel that this is a good plan but there's too much going on and the readers might get too overwhelmed. I don't particularly like the use of red as the background for the 'Contents' as it washes out the 'B.O.A.'

Front Page Plans

This first plan is very tidy but dull. I like the font used for the 'Miss A' as it's bold and has an attitude to it. However the masthead looks out of place and bland. This may put the readers off as it doesn't fit in with the magazine, they may dislike it as it's boring and uninteresting.
I like the use of the Korean flag on the main masthead as well as the side bar.

On this second plan I have positioned the yellow side bar on the left closer to the masthead which makes it more appealing as well as the bar code as it follows the eye rule of the 'Z.' I have also put an outline on the 'Miss A' this makes gives an effect that it's more sharp and clean. I haven't changed anything else from the first image.

Here I chose to experiment with the colour scheme. I chose to have a side bar with red, blue and yellow on the left side. This will show creativity and it will show that I have followed the colour scheme I have chosen. The 'O' in B.O.A I turned it land scape to see if it looked nice and I have also added two dots in it. By doing this I have created a 'ying and yang' (Chinese symbol) effect which I think looks really good. However I think that the masthead looks boring as it's too plane and dull. I have also changed the 'Miss A' font to Brush Script MT. I think that this font looks very effective and elegant however this is not the effect I'm after.

This is a better layout in my personal opinion as the front cover looks more professional and put together. The colours used works well. I especially like the font I used for the masthead. I feel that it will grab readers more than the previous fonts I used. I have also enlarged and changed the font of the names of the artists which is now very visible. Without reading the cover lines you can already know who's featured in the magazine. I especially like use of the new font for the 'Miss A' it gives an effect of face pace life or the zooming of the car which may connote the fast rise in career of Miss A.

I first drew a front page plan by hand which I then edited and made some changes using the computer.
