My personaly music preferences

Hi, my name's Kimberly (if you haven't noticed the blog's title yet) I'm 16 years old, I'm from the Philippines, it's located on south East Asia. But I moved to the UK when I was 7 exposing me to new varieties of music.

I grew up with music due to my parents who have influenced me. There will always be a CD playing Abba, Dionne Warwick or Celine Dionne. Surprisingly enough I enjoy listening to those genre of music and I know most of their songs. I also listened to many K-pop (Korean Pop) songs due to my cousins and aunt influencing me.

But as I grew up, I found some other artists such as the black eye peas, S-Club 7 and other mainstream pop artists. I adored their music and the dance tempo of their songs. However I grew out of liking their music and started to like artists and songs from the Philippines such as Christian Bautista and Sarah Geronimo.

Now in recent times I mainly listen to Korean or Japanese pop, I know it may seem weird that I can’t understand their lyrics but I really enjoy the meaning of the songs and the videos. I usually end up getting the English translated lyrics to know what they’re singing. I think it’s amazing how different genres of music can affect your life. On the other hand they do have English versions of song, nevertheless I feel that the original Korean versions are the best as they aren’t trying too hard to pronounce the words where as in their native language, they’re more relaxed and confident.

List of artists/bands I enjoy listening to:

2NE1 (Pronounced Twenty-One) –They’re a girl group in South Korea containing Sandara Parks, Pak Bom, Gong Min-ji and Lee Chae-rin (CL.) 2NE1 are very fierce with their image and sound but they also do soft and low tempo songs.
The genre of songs they do are K-pop, electronic, dance, urban and electropop.

2NE1 are able to jump genres for instance their first debut sing “Lollipop” featuring BigBang was categorized for pop while “Fire” was predominately influenced by hip hop and their latest single “I don’t care” was intended to have the reggae feel.

BigBang – They are a South Korean boy band consisting of T.O.P, G-Dragon, Daesung, TaeYang and Seungri. They are one of the most known groups in Asia. The songs they do are very unique and relatable. Back in 2008, BigBang’s music was predominately hip hop and pop but in their first album they also added R&B styled music.
Their music and song genres are; K-pop, hip hop, R&B, dance-pop, J-pop (Japanese Pop) and electropop.
Their latest album Alive contains multiple varieties of music styles. “Bad Boy” is nostalgic while “Fantastic Baby” is very strong on electro pop. On the other hand, “Ain’t no fun” is a mixture of euro trance and disco. The song “Blue” is defined as an electronic ballad which starts off with a soft piano which then blends perfectly with the acoustic guitar.

Taylor Swift– I also enjoy listening to her as she writes and sings songs from her past experience and it’s applicable for my age group.
Her music genres are; pop, pop-rock, country and country-pop.
Some people don't class her as a "real" country singer due to her new album which is more on Pop in my opinion. However her old singles and albums were but that was when she was about 16-18.
